A test mule wearing the Ferrari 488 body has recently been filmed on video on the Italian carmaker’s own Fiorano test track. Judging by the sound, the car packs a six-cylinder engine.
Of course, no one seriously believes Ferrari to be working on an entry-level sports car. In all likelihood, the spotted vehicle is a hybrid. Like many manufacturers today, Ferrari has to abide by the increasingly strict environmental standards and reduce emissions in all possible ways. Releasing just one underpowered, range-limited vehicle would easily ruin its reputation as the builder of some of the world’s fastest cars. As such, hybrid technologies seem like the best solution for the problem.
Ferrari has another major premiere scheduled for late 2020, which is the open-top hybrid hypercar called SF90 Stradale.
