Maggiore gets a Ferrari 288 GTO homage ready to rumble

Ex-cyclist Gianluca Maggiore and his car company have introduced an impressive restomod project aimed at perpetuating the image of the legendary Ferrari 288 GTO.

Dubbed the Gran TurismO, the car utilizes a 2.9-liter turbo V8 engine upgraded with a high-end intercooler, eight separate throttles, new cylinder heads and numerous other motorsport components. Thanks to its lower volume, the block can be mounted in longitudinal, rather than transverse, fashion. The output is currently estimated at 536–608 PS (530–600 hp; 394–447 kW).

Other improvements mentioned include wider track, a sports-grade brake system, an all-carbon body and completely redone suspension. Interestingly, Maggiore says it will accept the Ferrari 208, 308 and 328 models as donor cars, not even mentioning whether there are any preferences between them.

Availability dates and prices aren’t discussed this early on. In a twist of fate, one of the key participants of the project – Nicola Materazzi, who also took part in designing the original Ferrari F40 and 288 GT – passed away just a few days ago. Nonetheless, the tuner seems resolved to see the project to its completion.
