The new Ferrari 499P Modificata is a thoroughly modified version of the prototype racer that won the last year’s 224 Hours of the Le Mans in its top category. Unlike that one, the Modificata is not FIA-compliant and not designed for any particular racing series, but Ferrari is willing to host track day events for all owners.
The original drivetrain based on the 3.0-liter V6 taken from the Ferrari 296 GT3 is still under the hood. However, while he standard 499P only engages its front-axle e-motor starting from 190 km/h (118 mph), the Modificata can be configured to freely use it at any time, essentially giving drivers all the benefits of part-electric AWD.
A new button called Push to Pass has been added to the steering wheel controls, letting drivers get an extra 163 PS (161 hp / 120 kW) for seven seconds when passing. Thus, the new 499P can briefly push up to 870 PS (858 hp / 640 kW) to the wheels, a big improvement over the original’s 680 PS (671 hp / 500 kW).
Further improvements include a set of purpose-made Pirelli tires and new settings for the suspension and some electronic systems on board. The single-seat interior remains the same so that drivers can feel like real Le Mans racers.
A limited quantity of the Ferrari 499P Modificata will be produced for select customers; the specific number has not been revealed. The same goes for the price. What we do know is that Ferrari will be launching a track day program called Sport Prototipi Clienti, pledging technical and logistical support to private race hosts.
