Rare Ferrari replica is heading to an auction

The car you see here is a relatively common Ferrari 308 QV GTS that its owner stylized to look like the ultra-rare 288 GTO worth millions of euros nowadays.

QV of London, which is responsible for the build, says the project took no less than four years to complete and mandated the use of either OEM or authentic-looking custom components. No word has been given on pricing.

The tuner firm, which employs former Ferrari specialists, adds that the source car for the conversion was picked with utmost care. The most suitable vehicle was discovered in the United States and brought to UK.

From the technical point of view, the team recreated the bodywork from stainless steel and GFRP using the original molds Ferrari used for the real 288 GTO. Some smaller elements, like grilles, mirrors and badges, were imitated based on the original documentation. The body received an authentic Rosso Corsa paint coat, and the interior wound up with a black leather/Alcantara trim, like the original 288 GTO.

Where the replica distances itself from the vanilla car is the engine. Whereas the original had a 2.9-liter dual-turbo V8, the copy uses a naturally aspirated engine partnered up with a Ferrari 348 gearbox. Precise parameters are not available, but the stock car had 3.4-liter engine rated between 310 and 324 PS (306 – 320 hp; 229 – 267 kW, respectively). The ECU was updated to enable a more linear, convenient driving experience.

All modifications are street-legal.
