A car aficionado by the name of Mike felt his Ferrari 308 GTBi was “underpowered, overweight and overpriced”, so he set off on a quest to transplant its engine for something more track-worthy.
He stopped his search on the 2.4-liter, four-cylinder Honda K24 turbo. It may sound like a late April joke, but it really is not. The Japanese engine weighs a whole lot less than the heavy Italian V8 while producing even more power, and Mike hopes to be able to crank it up to 1,000 horsepower one of these days.
The video sheds some light on the project, but there is a whole lot more behind it than just that: tuning a Ferrari is never simple. AS of right now, Mike still has to find a way to prevent the setup from overheating after a few minutes. He also needs some axles for his car and some interior finish as well (note the pile of wires where the front passenger seat is supposed to be). Regardless, he has just performed the first engine start, and it sounded out of this world! Watching the full 16-minute video is recommended, but you may rewind to 10 minutes in for the first run.
