Restoring automotive classics does not always have to be about body and drivetrain repairs: a thorough cleaning and light detailing might do the trick in some cases. However, the example of this Ferrari 328 GTS shows that “cleaning” only sounds simple.
The 328 GTS was produced in 1986 and spent the past six years in a dilapidated barn, which left it covered in debris, dust and dirt. A team of detailers from AMMO dismantled the wheels and pressure-washed the wells to eliminate any residue there. According to them, cleaning just one wheel took nearly half an hour due to the numerous stubborn specks of dirt it was ridden with.
The body was rinsed with water to let the worst of the grime start melting away, then washed with shampoo and wiped thoroughly. A soft brush was used to access the most remote corners of the bodywork. Any scratches left on the paint would have to be detailed away.
Next on the list was an engine bay wash, and the last big thing was restoring the interior. Rather than taking the easy route of stripping it down and re-trimming everything, the team was able to vacuum-clean and wash everything back to an excellent state. All traces of mold were eliminated in the process, the body shined up with wax, and the tires coated with a protective solution.
This is how an abandoned Ferrari ended up looking like it has only barely left the factory.
