Evoluto Automobili has announced its plans to build a modern reinterpretation of the Ferrari 348, a sports coupe that used to be produced in 1989 through 1995. The model wasn’t exactly very popular, so you could still find one available for sale in decent condition for as little as U.S. $50,000.
To make the restomod stand out, Evoluto Automobili has designed a new all-carbon body that would make the Ferrari 348 look more like the F355. Furthermore, certain of its parts appear clearly inspired by the latest Ferrari models: for instance, the front splitter is virtually identical to that of the F12berlinetta, while the taillights are almost an exact copy of those that come with the GTC4Lusso.
The car will be powered by the relatively new naturally aspirated Ferrari 360 3.6 V8 engine rated at 400 hp (298 kW). If you wish, the company will apply a number of tweaks to get the output further up to 500 hp (373 kW), but know that it will never offer the car in a super- or turbocharged form, preferring instead to stick to naturally aspirated only. Transmission will also be strictly manual.
Among other things, Evoluto Automobili wants to reduce the weight of its Ferrari 348 restomod from the original 1,500 kilograms (3,300 lb.) to just 1,000 kg (2,200 lb.). This might be a bit too ambitious of a promise, however.
The company doesn’t give any estimates of when the car should enter retail. It is currently busy testing an early concept vehicle and trying to determine its strengths, weaknesses, and the estimated retail price tag. Industry pros believe that it will likely exceed U.S. $500,000 in any case.
