Rodrigo Duterte, President of the Philippines, took offense with this Ferrari 360 Spider supercar upon discovering the car was smuggled into the country, and proceeded to order it crushed by a bulldozer. Needless to say, the whole world now won’t shut up about it.
The local media estimated the price of this particular Spider at 7,000,000 Philippine Peso, which is roughly equivalent to U.S. $137,000. Curiously enough, the car can be clearly seen missing its expensive doors and bumpers before the destruction. But who are we to suspect foul play, right?
This is by far not the first time Duterte lashes out at contraband luxury goods. In 2018 alone, Philippine authorities have squished 60 Lamborghini, Mercedes-Benz, and Porsche vehicles worth around $55,000,000 in total. They destroyed a few dozen Jaguar, BMW, Lexus, and Chevrolet Corvette Stingray before that.
As controversial as the practice may seem, they also do it in Australia and a few other countries.
