The Italian automaker has unveiled the 296 GTB, a Berlinetta-style sports car named after its displacement volume (2.9 liters) and cylinder count (6). The engine is all-new and integrated into a hybrid system.
The internal combustion alone generates 663 PS (654 hp / 488 kW), and an electric motor contributed another 167 PS (165 hp / 123 kW) of its own. An eight-speed DCT transmission incorporates a motor-generator. All-electric range is quite low at 25 kilometers (15.5 miles), and you cannot accelerate beyond 135 km/h (84 mph) in this mode.
Fire up the petrol engine, and you will be good to go 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 2.9 seconds, and reach 200 km/h (124 mph) in 7.3 seconds. The top speed lies at 330 km/h, or 205 mph.
The cabin is minimalistic as befits a Ferrari, but still benefits from a fair amount of fine leather and exclusive trimming materials.
Once the Ferrari 296 GTB hits the showrooms, it will compete against the likes of the McLaren Artura, although the latter only commands 680 PS (671 hp / 500 kW).
