Improvised Ferrari table sells for the price of a new Ferrari sports car

A coffee table supported on a Ferrari V12 cylinder block went on auction in Florida this weekend and attracted an insane top bid of $246,000, smashing the predicted estimate of $30,000–60,000. You can buy a new Ferrari Roma for nearly the same price. The Drive believes the rarity of this particular V12 could influence the value.

The listing had a rather laconic description of the table: chrome housing, no internals, the glass top is supported on extendable exhaust pipes that you can pull and push to adjust the height of the table.

Having analyzed the photos carefully, the team over at The Drive concluded it must have been a rare modification of the Colombo V12 engine that used to power the Ferrari 365 GTC/4. That coupe was made in Maranello only in 1971 and 1972. The special modification had 4.4 liters of displacement and a different intake system based on Weber carburetors. It also featured a different oil sump, which can be seen in the images.
