Heresy as an Art Form: Chevy-powered Ferrari 412 ute exists to offend

Ferrari had its share of less popular models, like the 365 GT 2+2 and its successors 400 and 412. Still, is it any reason to butcher them like this?

The original owner of this coupe bought it back in 1989 with a black body and a 4.9-liter V12 driving the wheels with 340 PS (335 hp / 250 kW). However, the next person to own the Italian exotic felt it needed a complete makeover, so he had the exterior finished in a cooler share of red and the rear end remodeled into a small truck bed. To us, this part looks cheap and atrociously ugly, only aggravated by scratched bed walls, no tailgate and a wooden lining inside. The rear seat row also flew out of the window the moment the rear platform was installed.

If you are still reading this for some reason, know that the car ditched its V12 in favor of a Chevrolet V8. Apparently, the owner was frustrated with the frequent breakdowns of the original mill and wanted something more ‘robust’. The stock three-speed automatic transmission is still in place, but the build is not road-legal and has been kept in a museum lately.

Bonhams Auctions has just sold the blasphemous Ferrari 412 ute to the highest bidder. We were unable to find the price, but estimations placed it between £15,000 and £20,000, which is beyond miserable for a Ferrari.
