A 56-year-old Ferrari 412P Berlinetta fetched U.S. $30,255,000 at an auction this weekend, becoming the company’s sixth most expensive vehicle on resale in recent history, CarBuzz reports. Only two cars like this were made.
The model was targeted towards private racing teams. The car on sale had chassis number 0854 and was delivered to Maranello Concessionaires in the spring of 1967. It proceeded to participate in the 1,000 Kilometers of Spa-Francorchamps and the Sweden Gran Prix, and later entered the Hockenheimring and the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
The team was disbanded next year, and the car started changing hands, with its new owners alternately bringing it to the United States, the UK and Japan. In 2005, its owner at the time decided to have it restored to factory condition; the work took nine years.
In its present form, the sports car fully corresponds the original that left Maranello premises 56 years ago. It has authentic chassis, engine and gearbox, as well as per-wheel wishbone suspension and disc brakes all around. A 420-PS (414-hp / 309-kW) V12 engine delivers the torque to the wheels through a five-speed MT. It is also fully street-legal.
