A 68-year-old Ferrari 375 America Vignale Cabriolet will go on sale at the Monterey Car Week in the United States on August 20 expected to fetch between $6.5 and $7.5 million.
With the production run capped at 12 units, the 375 America is extremely rare in the first place, and out of these 12, a pair of cars were converted by Ferrari to this model from the older 250 Europa spec. The convertible on sale happens to be one of those two OEM conversions.
However, the above only applies to the chassis and drivetrain, because the Italian automaker relied on coachbuilders to put bodies on its platforms. Pininfarina was responsible for designing eight examples of the 375 America, while Vignale handled the rest. Out of those four Vignale units, three were made into coupes and only one was styled with a removable hard top – this one. The seller has kept the roof intact and will be handing it over to the winning bidder.
The listing claims that Enzo Ferrari himself sold this droptop to a woman from Rome, Italy in late 1954. The car made it into the USA in 1958 and proceeded to change hands four times, its last owner having kept it for a quarter of a century.
Powering the timeless classic is a 4.5-liter V12 mated to a four-speed gearbox and rated at 300 PS (296 hp / 221 kW).
