Schumacher’s F1 racecar smashes through a price record

The Ferrari racecar piloted by Michael Schumacher during the 2003 Formula One season found a new owner for 14.63 million CHF, which translates into nearly 15 million USD. Autoevolution reports that it is now the history’s most expensive Formula racer, with the 2001 Ferrari chassis playing a distant runner-up with 7.5 million USD.

Back in 2003, Schumacher scored nine victories, ensuring not just his victory in the championship but also the title of the most-crowned F1 champion ever. The previous title was held by Juan Manuel Fangio with five world championship victories, but Schumacher surpassed him easily with five victories out of nine scored behind the steering wheel of this very racecar.

In addition to the above, the Red Baron scored two podiums and set three lap records. As a result, it is considered the most-awarded vehicle out of the six based on the F2003-GA chassis.

Aside from its impressive background, the car boasts a pristine state after a restoration at the Maranello HQ earlier this year. The car is fully equipped, ready to race and comes with a Ferrari Classiche certificate of conformity. Its 3.0-liter V10 revs up to 19,000 RPM and slams the wheels with 845 PS (833 hp / 621 kW).
