Rare Ferrari racecar hood goes on sale, bid to €1,000 so far

This bonnet cover once belonged to a Ferrari 512 BB LM racer built specifically for endurance championships.

The Italian company only produced 25 such supercars. The example on sale originates from a racer the Fabrizio Violati Scuderia Bellancauto team of Italy drove in early 1980s. Given its background, it can be described as being in a fairly good condition. Despite this, the bidding has only reached €1,100 with a few days remaining on the auction clock.

To be specific, the hood part shown here has integrated fenders and headlights. You can even see red tape residue that the team used to hold things together during races. The designer of the racing team mentioned above came up with this particular hood design and never used it on any vehicle other than the Scuderia Bellancauto. Most other examples had Pininfarina bodywork all around.

The team, which was named after its founder Fabrizio Violati, drove the racecar No.2 out of 25 in such famous endurance racing tournaments as the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the 1000 km of Mugello, and the 1000 Kilometres of Monza.

The car the hood was taken from originally participated in races in 1981 and 1982 (watch the video for more details). It received a new, more compact front clip later on, while this bulky hood went to the racing team’s personal museum and stayed there until 2014. The museum later sold it into private hands.
