A 1978 Ferrari 512 BB modified by a tuning company called Koenig Specials back in the 1980s was sold for €126,500 earlier this week. The auction holder commented that the tuning added to the total price instead of subtracting from it, as one might expect in the case of a Ferrari car.
The aftermarket components included an exhaust system that bumped up the output of the engine from its usual 360 metric horsepower to 370. Another upgrade was applied to the engine internals, raising the output to 400 PS. Increasing the compression ratio, improving the geometry of the cylinder block and introducing a single turbocharger ramped up the power to 450 PS. The example sold this week was outfitted according to the top spec, which had dual turbos and an intercooler for a grand total of 620 PS (612 American horsepower; 456 kilowatts).
The car had 65,000 km (a touch over 40,000 miles) on the odo at the moment of sale. It received a full round of maintenance prior to the auction.
