Ultra-rare Ferrari supercar to go under the hammer

This Ferrari 550 modified back in the year 2000 to be GT1-compliant will go on sale in Milan, Italy on June 15, 2021. Team Rafanelli ordered only two such vehicles built by Italtecnica.

Ferrari itself never intended to send its large FWD sports car to a championship, but a few racing teams still thought it would be a waste to leave the V12-powered coupe out of the action.

Italtecnica responded to the plea, expanding the engine from 5.5 to 6 liters of displacement and improving air intake. As a result, the car could produce 585 PS (577 hp / 430 kW) at 6,250 RPM and 750 Nm (553 lb-ft) of torque at 4,700 RPM. A racing-grade sequential transmission replaced the OEM gearbox.

The use of a carbon fiber body and kit along with the removal of all unnecessary components dropped the curb weight by 590 kg (1,300 lbs) to just 1,100 kg (2,425 lbs).

This particular example had participated in 16 races and went through a slight overhaul not long ago. The seller expects to get between $2.1 and $2.6 million out of the deal.
