Northamptonshire-based company RML Group has unveiled the first production car to carry its branding: the RML Short Wheelbase, which obviously draws inspiration from the six-decades-old Ferrari 250 GT SWB.
The sports car uses the 5.5-liter naturally aspirated V12 of the Ferrari 550 Maranello out of the mid-1990s, rated at 485 PS (478 hp / 357 kW) and 568 Nm (419 lb-ft) of torque. A six-speed manual gearbox conveys the momentum to the wheels. The company says nothing about the origin of the chassis, but we suspect that it, too, might originate from the 550 Maranello.
The car weighs in at 1,470 kg (3,240 lbs) and needs 4.1 seconds to hit 97 km/h (60 mph) from standstill. The top speed exceeds 298 km/h (185 mph).
With its original carbon fiber body and kit, the coupe is 4,264 mm (14 feet) long and 1,954 mm (6.4 feet) wide, making it much larger than the 1959 Maranello. The equipment list is rather indulging and includes an air conditioner, an infotainment system with sat-nav, and power seats.
RML Group has plans for around 30 such vehicles, although the quantity is not final yet and the pricing remains to be announced.
