Michael Schumacher’s racecar goes under the hammer

The Ferrari F2001b that Michael Schumacher drove to victory at the 2002 Australian Grand Prix and a podium win in Malaysia in the same year is currently being traded at a private auction. The details are kept secret, but some sources believe it could go for as much as $10,000,000.

Ferrari prepared the chassis specifically for the first three races of that season, later replacing it with a more modern F2002 design. Out of the three races Schumacher took part in, he managed to score podium victories in two.

The Malaysian Grand Prix was the most intense of all. The legendary driver won pole position (no. 150 for Ferrari), but collided with Juan Pablo Montoya’s car early into the race and had to take an unplanned pit stop leave. By the time he was back on track, he was 21st. Not even this setback prevented him from scoring bronze in the end.

The Ferrari F2001b on sale comes equipped with a 3.0-liter naturally aspirated V10 that revs up to 17,300 RPM and outputs 850 PS (838 hp / 625 kW). If that isn’t impressive enough, consider that the whole racecar weighs in at mere 600 kilograms, or 1,322 pounds. The listing neglects to mention whether the original engine is included in the sale, though.
