Confectioner molds a F1 racecar out of chocolate

Amaury Guichon, renowned pastry chef and chocolatier, has shared a video boasting his latest creation – a meticulously detailed 1:2 replica of a Formula 1 racecar.

He started off by preparing thin plates of molten chocolate to be shaped into chassis and frame components using paper templates as reference. Once everything was put together, he polished the bodywork a bit to achieve the desired aerodynamic look. Next, he added the side mirrors, the roll bar and the body kit to the replica, many of them shaped in custom chocolate molds created specifically for the project.

The base the car is composed of dark chocolate and ‘finished’ with confectionery mixes using an airbrush. The same applies to the wheels. Even such fine details as the lug nuts, the steering yoke and the safety belts are reproduced.

The black and red livery worn by the racecar could be a nod to Ferrari. At the same time, the number 14 belongs by Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso in this season, so the dedication – if there is any – is unclear.

Guichon said the work of art took seven days and 60 kilograms (132 pounds) of chocolate to create.
