A recent YouTube video shows a Ferrari 488 Pista supercar bolting from standstill to 100 km/h (62 mph) in barely believable 2.26 seconds – 0.59 s faster than the manufacturer said it could.
According to the official manual which comes with the car, it should achieve that kind of acceleration in 2.85 seconds. Apparently, the vehicle can do even better than that.
Furthermore, someone at Ferrari has also underestimated its capability to accelerate 0-200 km/h (0-124 mph). The documents clearly state it is supposed to take at least 7.6 s, whereas the vehicle in the video manages the same result in 6.94 s. Then, of course, there is the road quality and altitude variations to reckon with…
The new Ferrari 488 Pista is a hardcore version of the sports-oriented 488 GTB model. With a 3.9L twin-turbo V8 engine rated at 720 hp (537 kW) at its disposal, it is the fastest-going V8 vehicle in the Ferrari lineup. On the outside, it sports a carbon hood cover, active aerodynamic attachments, racing-grade bumpers, a spoiler and a splitter. It can also accelerate to a maximum of 340 km/h (211 mph) when on a suitable racetrack… Unless this is also an underestimation?...
