Collector pays record $70,000,000 for a 55-year-old sports car

A unique 1963 Ferrari 250 GTO sports car has been recently sold at an auction for a record-breaking sum of 70,000,000 U.S. dollars. A US vehicle collector who paid the exorbitant amount chose to keep his/her identity secret.

This classical Ferrari exemplar is painted silver with occasional black, white, yellow, blue and red body accents. There are no more than four vehicles like this in the world to date, which makes each one exceptionally valuable.

The value of this particular car is further increased by its history of participation in various prestigious championships. Its achievement list includes the 1st place in the ten-day-long Tour de France and the 4th place in 24 Hours Le Mans, among others.

The vehicle underwent complete restoration in the 1990, but got to keep all of its original units and components – and even has the certificate to show for it. In 2000, a German car enthusiast bought it for 6,500,000 USD.

The hood cover of the Ferrari 250 GTO conceals a 3.0-liter V12 engine with 300 hp (224 kW) at its disposal, partnered with manual transmission. The vehicle accelerates 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in under six seconds.
