Ferrari Daytona SP3 pays homage to the marque’s grand success in 1967

Ferrari unveiled a new Icona-series supercar this weekend. Called the Daytona SP3, it references the 24 Hours of Daytona, a historical endurance race in which the Italian automaker claimed the entire pedestal in 1967.

The modern re-interpretation of the Daytona comes based on the 6.5-liter V12 of the 812 Competizione model. Some further tweaking lets the engine pump out 840 PS (828 hp / 618 kW) and 697 Nm (514 lb-ft) of torque. A dual-clutch transmission sends the momentum to the wheels.

While the car lacks active aerodynamic components, Ferrari takes pride in the sophisticated design of its dual rear diffuser. The part is similar to those used in Formula 1 racers and contributes the most downforce.

Elsewhere, the chassis and the body are made of carbon fiber, which lets the supercar weigh just 1,485 kg (3,274 lbs) while retaining exceptional structural rigidity. A sprint from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) lasts only 2.85 seconds.
