Ferrari looking for ways to boost its most powerful V12

Everyone has been talking about the recently debuted Ferrari 812 Competizione and its open-top ‘A’ version lately, both powered by the marque’s most potent V12. As it turns out, the company is looking into bolstering it even further.

For those of you who missed it, the new V12 exerts up to 830 PS (819 hp / 610 kW) along with 692 Nm (510 lb-ft) of peak torque. Now, according to Ferrari CTO Michael Leiters as quoted by Autocar, the Italian sports car maker wants to extract some additional power out of it. It remains unspecified what model will be the first to make use of this improved engine.

We have three main theories in this regard. First is the Purosangue SUV, which is still being test-driven around in modified Maserati Levante bodies. Second is a LaFerrari successor expected to arrive in a few years’ time. Third is an exclusive special edition, something like the Monza SP1/SP2.

In its earlier press statements, Ferrari has repeatedly stressed that it intended to keep its V12 in the lineup despite the ever-stricter environmental laws.
