Sotheby’s to sell two-time Le Mans winner Ferrari

Sotheby’s will soon be holding an auction for a Ferrari 275P racecar issued in 1963. The vehicle won the Gran Prix of the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1963 and 1964.

The starting price hasn’t been revealed so far.

The vehicle is one of four racecars built specifically for the Ferrari racing team. The holder of the auction managed to obtain documental evidence that it was this Ferrari 275P (chassis No. 0816) that won the Le Mans race 55 years ago.

On an interesting note, the car hadn’t initially been built to participate in international racing events of any kind. It wasn’t until the approved Le Mans car got into a serious accident and had to undergo major repairs that the management of the company decided to use the No. 0816 instead.

The racecar had spent about half a century in the Pierre Bardinon’s private collection before going on to its next owner.
