Champion’s Ferrari Enzo set to fetch a record sum

A Ferrari Enzo that currently belongs to two-time Formula I champion Fernando Alonso will cross the auction block in Monaco on Thursday, June 8. With around 4,800 km (3,000 miles) under its belt, it is expected to bring home over €5 million.

The original Enzo was produced from 2002 until 2004, and the listing doesn’t explicitly mention a specific year for the car on sale. However, it does say ‘Scocca No 1’. ‘Scocca’ is Italian for ‘monocoque’ or ‘car cabin’, which could mean it is the first example ever made. In that case, it is unclear why it is never mentioned in proper English.

Alonso was the driver of the Scuderia Ferrari team from 2010 until 2014, but never scored gold. It is unknown whether he bought his car himself or got it as a gift from the team.

The Ferrari Enzo (see video) is a vehicle laden with Formula technology and the marque’s last flagship to utilize a naturally aspirated V12. With six liters of displacement at its disposal, the engine made up to 660 PS (651 hp / 485 kW) in its best days, taking the racecar 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in roughly 3 seconds and up to a top speed of 355 km/h (220 mph).
