Low-mileage Ferrari F40 set to bring home $2.5M+

A 31-year-old Ferrari F40 – the company’s last flagship model released when its founder Enzo Ferrari was still alive – will hit the auction block on March 4, 2022.

The car is in good condition with three owners in the record and slightly over 6,000 km (3,730 miles) under its belt. As such, it is set to sell for $2.4–$2.8 million.

Ferrari made a total of 1,315 such vehicles, although original plans envisioned only 400 units, including 213 for the North America. The F40 was built on a stainless-steel tube frame with composites and Kevlar used throughout.

To minimize the weight, the engineering team decided against a radio of any kind and did not even make a glove compartment. Only later production units had an air conditioner on board.

A 2.9-liter turbocharged, dry-sump V8 churned out 478 PS (471 hp / 352 kW) to the wheels through a five-speed manual transmission. The car darted 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 3.7 seconds and maxed out at 324 km/h (202 mph).

The original owner of this example bought it 31 years ago and sold in 2013. The current – third – owner acquired it in 2018. The F40 comes with an authenticity certificate from Ferrari Classiche and has a regular maintenance record. Making this example even more desirable are the seats, which feature carbon frames and a special kind of textile trim known as Stofa Vigogna.
