Rare Ferrari F40 heads to auction in the USA

Mecum will be holding an auction in early 2024 dedicated to an exclusive Ferrari F40, among other things. Only 213 such cars were made, and only 22 were designed for the United States. There is no selling estimate, but well-kept F40 models have been known to sell for $2,000,000 and higher.

The car comes with a fully documented ownership history and is said to be in perfect condition with just under 14,000 km (8,700 miles) on the odometer.

Ferrari had to produce a special version of the F40 for the United States due to the country’s unique emission and safety requirements. All 22 vehicles made had distinct black trims in the front bumper, an added middle brake light at the top of the rear bumper, and seats with special safety belts.

The 2.9-liter turbocharged V6 received an extra catalytic converter. Despite this, the output hasn’t dropped a bit – on the contrary, Ferrari managed to raise it from the international 478 PS (471 hp / 352 kW) to 484 PS (477 hp / 356 kW).
