A unique Ferrari test mule used to design the LaFerrari Hybrid will hit the auction block on May 14, 2022.
This will be the second time the vehicle changes hands. Despite being illegal to drive on the streets, it nonetheless holds a certain collector’s value. Pricing remains unannounced.
The Italian sports car maker used this specific prototype to test earlier iterations of its hybrid powertrain, as well as suspension, brakes and electronics. Built on the aluminum chassis of the 458 Italia, it features extensive modifications that put it somewhere in between that car and the LaFerrari in terms of design (the latter has a carbon-fiber monocoque cabin).
Whoever buys the mule will also get all the faux bodywork the test crew was using for street tests.
The prototype had been running tests since May 2011, and was bought by a private collector three years later. The Ferrari LaFerrari debuted in 2013.
