Will Ferrari beef up its Portofino convertible?

The Ferrari Portofino was spied in mid-update this spring, and now it looks like there will be more to it than just a facelift.

The Italian supercar maker applied for a mysterious new trademark “2021 Ferrari F164 BCB” in the United States. The model year is self-explanatory and the F164 is the in-house moniker for “Portofino”, but the letters BCB may point to a still unannounced performance edition.

This guess is corroborated by the certification documents that Ferrari has allegedly leaked recently. They state that a new performance cabriolet will emerge soon packing the same 3.9-liter V8 TT as the Roma coupe. It will produce 620 PS (610 hp, or 455 kW).

Both Portofino predecessors – the California and the California T – shipped with the optional Handling Speciale that stiffened suspension, improved steering response and made the exhaust sound louder while preserving the stock power values. The transmission selected gears 30% faster and the electronic systems received tweaks in this version.

Ferrari has not commented on the leak yet. The 2021 Portofino remains penciled in for late summer – early fall premiere.
