Ferrari turns up the heat on the SF90 Stradale

The latest-and-greatest special edition of Ferrari’s SF90 Stradale is called XX and comes simultaneously in coupe and Spider flavors.

On the outside, the new version wears a revised body kit and sports more air intakes than ever – even the wheel arches have some. The front splitter looks larger than before and the rear diffuser has been modified. A solid LED stripe replaces the lights at the back.

The company claims that the new aero kit provides up to 530 kilos (1,170 pounds) of downforce at 250 km/h (155 mph). Out of these, 315 kilos (695 pounds) come from the rear wing alone. The Stradale XX is the Italian marque’s first street-legal car since the 1995 F50 model to flaunt a wing as big as that.

The powertrain still consists of a four-liter V8 and three electric motors, but the petrol engine has been slightly improved. It received new pistons, polished combustion chambers and intakes, and a new exhaust system. Along with a light redesign of the e-motors, this results in a power gain of 30 PS (30 hp / 22 kW).

More importantly, the e-motors can now briefly exceed their output for a particularly fast sprint. This reduces the 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) launch time from 2.5 to 2.3 seconds and lets drivers make sharper corners. Improved front brake cooling and larger 390mm brake rotors at the rear axle help keep things under control.

Both the Stradale and the Spider pack the same 7.9-kWh battery that yields 25 km (15.5 miles) of all-electric range. The top speed in all-electric mode stays capped at 135 km/h (84 mph). Firing up the main engine raises the top speed to 320 km/h (199 mph).

According to Ferrari, the new supercar completes its Fiorano Test Circuit a quarter of a second faster than its old version.
