Around three years ago, car enthusiasts from Puerto Rico bought a ruined Ferrari Testarossa from a neglectful owner who left it parked outside for more than 15 years. Back then, many doubted that restoring it would be possible, let alone viable. Well, would you look at this timelapse vid? The restomod is alive and kicking.
The sports car, which rolled off the assembly line in 1988, has been gradually restored over these three years by two people lacking specialized tools or ludicrously expensive OEM spare parts. They had to sand the entire bodywork and respray it in the period-correct shade of red, scoop out and replace the water-destroyed interior completely, and overhaul the engine and chassis using the available parts. Although in bad overall condition, the car only had around 24,000 km (15,000 miles) under its belt, so its moving bits weren’t too worn out.
Now, this restomod may not be winning any elegance contests, but it is already drivable and looks almost like a genuine Ferrari. That’s quite a feat in itself, and we applaud it.
