Bring-a-Trailer has sold the customized Fiat 126p that used to belong to actor Tom Hanks for $83,500, which will be donated to charity purposes. The retro car was a present from the residents of Bielsko-Biala, Poland, and was trimmed by Carlex Design.
The hatchback looks pristine with not a speck of rust in view, nor any other signs of aging. The bumpers shine with chrome, and the wheels are white. The interior by Carlex Design makes use of light green leather with black stripes for contrast. Buttons and controls mimic typewriter keys, a reference of sorts to Hanks’ obsession with collecting rare typewriter machines. There is a message saying “From Bielsko-Biala for Tom Hanks” under the odometer, and a commemorative plaque on the dash with the signature of the vehicle’s previous owner.
Things stay as they were under the hood, which in case of the Fiat 126p means a 594cc two-cylinder engine mated to a four-speed manual transmission. The output is as retro as it gets at 23 PS (23 hp / 17 kW) and 39 Nm (29 lb-ft) of torque.
Hanks auctioned off a few other cars last years, selling a tuned 1992 Airstream Model 34 Limited Excella movie car for $235,200. He also got rid of an elderly Toyota FJ40 upgraded by Icon 4x4.
