Fiat announces Hyundai Creta rival

Fiat will soon begin road-testing a new Argo-based compact crossover/SUV. The car will likely end up in the same market segment with the Hyundai Creta.

The Argo hatchback came out two years ago and received a quasi-off-road version called ‘Trekking’ this spring, complete with a custom body kit and 210 millimeters (8.2 inches) of ground clearance. The car is four meters (13.1 ft.) long and has 2,521 mm (8.27 ft.) between the axles.

The upcoming SUV goes under the provisional name of ‘Project 363’ so far. Its technical specs remain unannounced, but a 1.0-liter, three-cylinder turbo engine with 130 hp (97 kW) will likely be present in the lineup. The Argo ships with three naturally aspirated units: 1.0 (72–77 hp, 54–57 kW), 1.3 (101–109 hp, 75–81 kW) and 1.8 (135–139 hp, 101–104 kW). It remains unknown whether AWD will be on offer or not.

The launch is expected in 2021.
