After launching the Panda Hybrid and the 500 Hybrid in January 2020, Fiat has now expanded its part-electric vehicle lineup with two new entries, the 500X Hybrid and the Tipo Hybrid.
The powertrain is the same in both cases: a 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine makes 130 PS (128 hp / 96 kW) and 240 Nm (177 lb-ft) of torque in tandem with a 48V electric motor adding 20 PS (20 hp / 15 kW) of its own. A seven-speed dual-clutch transmission drives the wheels.
Fiat claims both models are capable of all-electric driving, but we suspect that there are severe speed and range limitations involved. The company stays silent about specifics.
Dynamics-wise, the Tipo Hybrid needs 9.3 seconds to climb from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph). The 500X Hybrid is one-tenth of a second slower than that.
