Fiat Abarth 124 Spider debuts with more power, revamped exterior

Car tuner Abarth presented an extensive mod called the Fiat Abarth 595 a while ago. The sport car received extra engine power, new suspension and an exterior overhaul. Now pretty much the same assortment of things is available in the new Abarth 124 Spider convertible.

The tuned-up No. 124 gained sport springs and racing-grade shock absorbers by Bilstein. Its turbocharged 1.4-liter, four-cylinder engine got a boost to 170 hp (127 kW), even though some industry professionals say it would have been still better off with 200 hp or more. Whatever the case, the car now accelerates 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 6.8 seconds and ultimately reaches 232 km/h (144 mph).

On the outside, the No. 124 got a sporty-looking diffusor, four massive tailpipes, and matte-black hood/trunk lids. The atelier also changed the standard wheels for exclusive aluminum ones.

It is hard to say whether the refreshed Fiat Abarth 124 Spider will be popular among car enthusiasts. The price tag of approx. U.S. $18,500 may be a no-go for many.
