Fiat is working on the next, electrified generation of its Panda city hatch. The switch to electric power is anything but surprising given the latest trends; the surprising part is that it could become a crossover SUV.
Rumor has it the company is working on a mysterious new car provisionally named the Fiat 364, which will ultimately go into production in Tychy, Poland. All we know is that the model will utilize a China-made BYD battery.
It could make use of a second-gen eCMP platform and a design not unlike that of the Centoventi Concept shown in our gallery and the video here. The concept debuted at the Genema IMS two years ago. The estimated price is rumored to lie close to €20,000.
We probably won’t know for sure until the production starts whether the 364 will replace the Panda in its market niche or not. The launch of a gas-powered Panda is expected in the spring of 2023, followed by a hybrid version a year later, so it is unclear how the rumored 364 would be able to replace it at all.
The current-gen city car has been on sale for ten long years now, and has received multiple updates throughout its life cycle. Insiders claim another facelift would be revealed in 2022. Could the new EV go on sale side-by-side with the petrol car? We will only find out when Fiat decides so, it seems.
