Italian carmaker Fiat is getting ready for a substantial overhaul of its product lineup in Europe, a market for which it has big plans in store. Per Autocar, as many as four new models are already in development.
The first one will reportedly come out next year and compete with the Ford Fiesta, Volkswagen Polo and Opel Corsa. It will be sized like the Fiat Punto despite being a completely different, electrified model.
As Fiat CEO Olivier Francois said in the interview, “Fiat must become the people’s Tesla.” He added, “We have to reduce EV costs to make them more affordable for the masses.”
The other three models will all be crossover EVs. One of these will be named Panda, like the Italian manufacturer’s icon from the past. Fiat assures us the Panda design team will draw upon the spirit and the philosophy of the original, rather than just replicating its looks.
