Fiat E-Scudo sets new Guinness Book record for snail-pace, looped driving

Webfleet, a company specializing in car fleet management solutions, has reported setting a new electric vehicle range record with a Fiat E-Scudo.

The commercial van managed to cover 508.8 kilometers, or 316.1 miles, on a single charge – much more than its official WLTP rating of 330 km (205 mi). In doing so, it has dethroned the BrightDrop Zevo 600 by General Motor, which ran 415 km (258 mi) from New York to Washington.

Webfleet drove the van in circles around Cambridgeshire, Lincolnshire and Northamptonshire, alternating between urban streets and suburban roads for a close-to-real experience. The version of the van tested had the biggest 75-kWh battery pack on board. Webfleet, which is a division of tire manufacturer Bridgestone, also put a set of Bridgestone Duravis low-resistance tires on it. Other than that, it stayed stock.

Three drivers, two of whom had already set EV range records before, drove the car in turns. The entire run took them 13 hours and 9 minutes, meaning that the average speed didn’t exceed a lowly 39 km/h (24 miles per hour). The result was verified by means of video footage, odometer and GPS data, and the remaining charge indicator.
