Fiat Tipo spotted underway to a minor facelift

After a 20-year long hiatus, Fiat resumed the production of its Tipo sedan/saloon in the fall of 2015. The following spring saw the expansion of the Tipo range with new hatchback and estate/wagon variants. Now, it seems like the model is in mid-facelift.

Judging by these freshly made spy photos, the car will barely change on the outside, only getting a new front bumper and radiator grille. The engine range is also likely to stay the same. On its domestic market of Italy, the Tipo is available with a 1.4-liter gasoline engine obtainable in 95hp (71kW) and 120hp (90kW) versions, and two MultiJet turbo diesels with the same power ratings. The transmissions include five-speed manual, six-speed manual, and six-speed semi-auto.

In all likelihood, the facelift will compensate for the lack of exterior changes with extra equipment and options. For instance, it may get the adaptive cruise control system of the latest Fiat 500, as well as the UConnect 5 infotainment system with its 10.25-inch display. The latter would be a major improvement over the current unit, which only supports 5- to 7-inch displays.

The production of the refreshed Fiat Tipo range will take place at the Tofas Factory in Bursa, Turkey.
