Fiat has unveiled the facelifted Tipo lineup. The cars get design improvements, new engines and a new trim version called the Cross.
Updated exterior features include the grille, the front bumper, the LED headlights and the wheels, while the rear end stays stock. Inside, there is a new steering wheel, seat upholstery, dashboard with a couple of gauges and a 7-inch display, a wireless charger, a single rear-seat USB port, and hardware controls backlit in white instead of red. The UConnect 5 infotainment with its 10.25-inch, touch-enabled widescreen display is optional, as are a number of driving aids.
The Fiat Tipo Cross is a high-riding version of the hatchback that lends it 40 mm (1.6 inches) of extra ground clearance, roof railings (previously only available for the estate/wagon), a rugged body kit, adjusted suspension, and meaty tires. The drive still stays on the front axle no matter what.
Gone are the old 1.4-liter gasoline engines rated at 95 hp (71 kW) and 120 hp (90 kW), replaced with a single 1.0-liter, three-cylinder FireFly mill good for 100 hp (75 kW) and 190 Nm (140 lb-ft). The Multijet turbo diesels have carried over without major changes: the 1.2L unit still churns out 95 hp (71 kW), while the 1.6L one enjoys a boost from 120 to 130 hp (97 kW).
Sales start later this year. Prices in Italy will begin around the €13,900 mark.
