Karma Automotive to unveil its Cybertruck rival later this year

Following a teaser image of an electric pickup truck revealed several months ago, the carmaker wants us to know that the car is going to debut later in the year.

Based on the image, the Karma truck will have solar panels on the roof, curved windows, and a glowing company logo.

Technical specs haven’t been discussed yet, but a representative of the company said the car would be priced lower than the Revero GT sedan/saloon that also runs on electric power and starts from 135,000 USD. Later on, the company intends to launch an SUV model based on the truck.

Karma Automotive came to be when Fisker Automotive went bankrupt and China-based Wanxiang Group purchased it. Its current lineup consists of only one model: the Karma Revero sedan, which is essentially an updated version of the 2008 Fisker Karma. Sales in 2019 barely surpassed 1,000 units, which could partially be explained by the 130,000+ USD price tag. Despite this, Karma is actually planning to launch a high-end GTS variant of the Revero later this year.

In 2019, we were introduced to the SC1 and SC2, two concept cars based on the same modular platform known as the Project e-Klipse (see the video).

It is also worth noting that two other high-end electric trucks should enter the market this year: specifically, the Bollinger B2 and the Rivian R1T. Both will ship simultaneously with their SUV counterparts. As for the Tesla Cybertruck, that one isn’t arriving until at least late 2021.
