U.S.-based automaker Fisker has shared some details about its upcoming four-seat electric convertible, the Ronin. Henrik Fisker’s company plans on releasing 999 units priced from an eye-watering $385,000 each. You can purchase a fully specced Bentley Continental GTC Mulliner W12 for $378,000 in the States.
The team behind the car believes it represents a revival of the classical five-seat Grand Tourer for the modern times. It comes build around a custom space-frame and has an in-built traction battery. Owners can use their smartphones to open and close the doors, as well as extend and retract the carbon-fiber droptop.
Only the suicide rear doors have physical handles, and you are supposed to swipe your palm across one in order for the front door locks to open. The front doors swing upwards and to the sides when opened. There are trunks at both ends of the car, but how large they are remains to be revealed.
The company made an effort to keep the weight of the EV down: even the 23-inch wheels are advertised as carbon-fiber. The structure makes active use of recycled materials, the steering wheel is yoke-shaped with the instruments displayed on its hub, and the 17.1-inch infotainment system display is installed in portrait orientation.
Three electric motors drive the wheels with more than 1,000 horsepower. Preliminary estimates show that the Ronin should be able to reach 100 km/h (62 mph) in roughly two seconds and ultimately reach 275 km/h (171 mph). The projected driving range is 965 km, or 600 miles.
Since Fisker has no industrial capacities of its own, it is hoping to be able to secure them from third parties and start the production in H2 2025. In the meantime, you can leave a deposit sized from $1,000 to $2,000.
