Fisker Ocean EV to support battery swaps starting from 2024

California-based automotive startup Fisker has struck a partnership deal with Ample. The company promises to help Fisker produce the all-electric version of the Ocean SUV and ship it with a removable traction battery block starting in Q1 2024.

According to the official press release, companies with large car fleets willing to go electric will be the first adopters of the technology and the first ones to receive their Ocean SUVs. In other words, given the limited manufacturing capacities, this most likely means that private individuals will not be able to buy it – at least, not for the first few months or years of production.

As for the Ample traction battery design, it consists of several smaller units that can be removed from the car and carried individually. The modular approach enables putting such power cells into any other EV. In the future, it may enable charging station operators to standardize the battery swap process across different EV brands.
