Enviable Fidelity: This 1927 Ford Model T spent 70 years with one owner

A recent CBS news piece told the story of Randall Pitman, from Ohio, USA, who has stayed true to one and the same car for seventy long years.

Even as a child, Pitman had always wanted to own a car, so he went to work at a gas station to build up some cash before the legal age. The boy toiled for a meager 10 cents per hour, but still managed to accumulate the coveted $50 in 1949. Grabbing the money, Randall went to an auction.

One of the lots was an old Ford Model T assembled back in 1927. Lacking the haggling skill, Pitman quickly raised his bid to $45 and then proceeded to outbid himself with $47.5 over sheer anxiety. The car was sold.

Seventy years later, the Ford is still sitting in the garage of the veteran gas station worker. There is another Ford T sitting next to it, which Pitman bought back in the 1960s, but never used much. He is currently working on restoring it to a drivable condition.

In contrast, the 92-year-old vintage ride is still functional, which is perhaps the most fascinating bit in the entire story. In 2018, Pitman drove it 600 miles (965 kilometers) to a retro car show without major incidents.
