U.S. automotive giant Ford has applied for a technology patent that involves a cinema projector incorporated into a tailgate of an SUV.
According to the documents and the sketches of the tech, the company wants to install video projectors into lower tailgate sections of its off-roaders. Whenever someone lifts the tailgate, the equipment projects a picture onto a nearby vertical surface.
This approach seems to have quite a few drawbacks: first, the car has to stand idle with its tailgate wide open for the entire duration of the movie. Second, the projecting equipment itself may experience wear and tear from constant closing and opening of the tailgate.
Ask to comment, Ford said the feature is still very much a work in progress and might as well never make it into production.
