Ford applies for an assistant quadcopter drone patent

The U.S. Patent Bureau has accepted a patent application from Ford detailing a car-assisting aerial drone. The automotive giant intends to use the technology to improve road safety.

According to the submitted documents, the quadcopter can keep track of a specific car and immediately notify the emergency services if there is a breakdown, an accident or another situation demanding assistance. When not in use, the drone can be packed into the trunk area.

According to the official comment, the tech is designed to be compatible with most vehicles, be it light passenger cars or large trucks. No estimations are given regarding the launch date, however.
