Attempt No. 2: Ford still interested in reviving the Capri

Eight years ago, Ford said it wouldn’t mind bringing the Capri sports coupe back to the market. A few days ago, Ford Europe voiced similar sentiments.

Speaking in a recent interview, Amko Leenarts, Head of Ford Global Interior Design, let it slip that his team was ‘dreaming about working on a Capri successor’. He emphasized that will alone would never be enough to greenlight the project, as it would have to be proven economically viable first.

Back in its time, the Capri was marketed as the European alternative to the Mustang. With around 2,000,000 copies sold in its 20 years of production, it was also considerably popular.

When Ford first raised the topic in 2011, they said the new Capri would have to look like a Ford Focus (either retro or modern). The Volkswagen Scirocco and the Renault Megane were named among its main competitors.
