Video: Ford testing humanoid delivery robots

The U.S. automotive corporation has acquired two Digits, humanoid robots made by Agility Robotics, and is currently trying them out in warehouse work and last mile delivery.

Just like us humans, both Digits have two arms and two legs. Quite unlike us, though, they have laser rangefinders built into their heads that scan the geometry of the surrounding area. Every Digit can handle parcels weighing up to 40 lbs (18 kilograms), ascend and descend stairs, and keep their balance even when pushed.

Ford says it will be testing the robots in courier delivery for the time being, but may later look into ways to integrate them into autonomous vehicle networks and enable them to interact with various commercial equipment.
