The North American car manufacturer Ford has come forth with an official announcement stating that the first self-driving Ford car to enter mass market will be a brand new vehicle developed from scratch by the company itself.
According to James D. Farley Jr., Ford Motor Company Executive Vice President, the car will take advantage of particularly stout base bodywork, a hybrid power unit, and a battery set which would enable it to keep going 20 hours per day. In addition to the above, the new self-driving Ford vehicle will get better suspension and brakes.
First field tests are scheduled for the next year. The company refuses to comment on when the prototype may enter mass production.
